Vallejo and Political Art Beyond Death (Conclusions)

  • Víctor Vich

摘要

The conclusions suggest that Vallejo’s poetry sought to transcend a purely aesthetic function. Vallejo did not shy away from the pedagogical dimensions of art and wanted to challenge his readers, to influence them, to encourage them, to recognize a truth that had taken place. It is often said that political art is “bad” because it is circumstantial and because it has a short life. However, Vallejo produced a poetry that is deeply rooted in his time but at the same time exceeds it. In Vallejo’s poetry it can be clearly observed, as Adorno argued, that when an aesthetic object is perceived only aesthetically, we have lost the very notion of the aesthetic.
