摘要

Hydrogen is the oldest and most abundant element in the universe, and it has a high potential as a clean and renewable energy source. However, to use hydrogen as a fuel, it needs to be transported from the production sites to the consumption points, and this poses some technical challenges. One of the possible ways to transport hydrogen is via pipeline, either alone or blended with natural gas, at relatively high pressure. This chapter provides an overview of the main aspects of pipeline design for hydrogen transportation, and highlights some of the peculiarities and risks of hydrogen interaction with materials and welds. It also outlines some of the opportunities and benefits of using hydrogen as a gas in pipelines, both onshore and offshore.
