Evaluation of Surgical Treatments

Evidence-based medicine is also applicable for surgical treatment. The new classification of CRS proposed in EPOS2020 divides CRS into primary and secondary disease with further division based on localisation and endotype. The importance of this new classification lies in its direct consequences for the choice of treatment. CRSwNP is a form of primary diffuse type 2 disease. The consequences for treatment are that the treatment is primarily aimed at reducing the type 2 inflammation. Surgery is indicated to improve penetration of local treatment and in situations where appropriate medical treatment is insufficient.
