Faculty Development for Teaching Geriatrics
摘要
Given the rapid aging of the US population, the relatively few specialty-trained geriatricians must disseminate their specialized skillsets to other clinicians. It is particularly important to target clinicians in teaching roles (e.g., junior faculty like chief residents). To be effective, programs must gauge and appropriately tailor to their learners’ range of teaching experience and specific setting of clinical practice. Successful programs have importantly included the aspect of inter-institutional exchange that allows for longitudinal mentorships across specialties and institutions. Moreover, as geriatrics care develops into a more multi-disciplinary team model, it is important to empower clinician-educators throughout the interprofessional team spectrum.
