Teaching Geriatrics in the Nursing Facility
摘要
The nursing facility environment, with its diverse patient-care opportunities ranging from rehabilitation to long-term dementia care, is a novel yet underutilized geriatric medical education setting. Both undergraduate and graduate level healthcare learners can benefit from integrating into the nursing facility’s authentic interprofessional care team structure, as well as from witnessing firsthand the complex transitions of care and healthcare system navigation that occurs when older adult patients interface with nursing facilities. This chapter outlines the educational opportunities in the nursing facility and the potential avenues to integrate the 5Ms framework organically into nursing facility-based teaching strategies.
