Teaching Through Inpatient Geriatrics Consultations

Although the inpatient clinical consultation has traditionally been viewed as a tool for providing patient care, it provides a rich opportunity for teaching and learning. Many features of the inpatient geriatrics consult are uniquely suited to the needs of adult learners, as the learning will automatically be of clear relevance, immediately applied, and used to generate creative, real-time clinical solutions. This chapter reviews a five-step practical approach to integrating teaching strategies into the geriatrics consult process.
