As medical advancements continue, the number of cancer survivors living through and beyond their diagnoses is rising. Both the short-term and long-term phases of cancer survivorship mark critical periods during which medical care and attention to social needs should be prioritized. Food insecurity is a significant social issue that many cancer survivors face, either persistently or for the first time, due to the increased financial burdens of cancer treatment. Food insecurity among cancer survivors can lead to further complications, such as worsened treatment outcomes, poor dietary habits, and an increase in comorbidities. Initiatives aimed at addressing food insecurity have involved governmental resources as well as community and healthcare system support. This chapter will explore the intersection of food insecurity and cancer survivorship, examining the causes and consequences of food insecurity in cancer, interventions to mitigate food insecurity in clinical settings, and considerations in public policy and clinical practice.
