Macronutrients and Disease: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
摘要
An unhealthy diet pattern increases the likelihood of developing and progression of common endocrine disorders, particularly polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). An imbalance in macronutrient intake is one of the nutritional factors that poses a threat to women’s health. Diet-derived pro-inflammatory and inflammatory components are considered significant triggers for PCOS. Women with PCOS are more likely to skip breakfast and consume junk foods. Researchers are examining various therapeutic diets including the Mediterranean diet, ketogenic diets, high-protein diets, and low-glycemic diets to assess their effects on the hormonal and metabolic profile of women with PCOS. The chapter further discusses the clinical evidence regarding the role of macronutrients in the development, progression, and management of the signs and symptoms of PCOS.
