The liver, a vital organ responsible for metabolism and detoxification, is central to maintaining systemic health. However, liver diseases such as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), hepatitis, and alcoholic liver disease (ALD) have emerged as significant global health challenges, exacerbated by dietary and lifestyle factors. This chapter explores the relationship between nutrition and liver health, emphasizing the role of macronutrients, micronutrients, and antioxidants in liver function and disease prevention. The chapter goes on to discuss how poor dietary choices, including excessive intake of saturated fats, refined sugars, and alcohol, contribute to liver pathologies while nutrient-rich diets, such as the Mediterranean and plant-based patterns, offer protective effects. The gut-liver axis, an emerging area of interest, is discussed in the context of its influence on liver disease progression and the potential of probiotics and prebiotics in therapeutic strategies. Furthermore, the chapter shows the impact of lifestyle factors such as physical activity, smoking cessation, and regulated alcohol consumption in mitigating liver disease risk. Drawing on historical perspectives and contemporary research, the chapter advocates public health initiatives and policy interventions to promote dietary awareness and lifestyle modifications as cost-effective strategies to reduce the global burden of liver diseases.

摘要
