Elbow Tendinopathies and Tendon Ruptures

Lateral and medial epicondylitis, often referred to as "tennis and golfer’s elbow,” respectively are a common pathology. Their diagnosis is typically straightforward based on the patient interview and physical examination alone. Although medial epicondylitis’s treatment has more predictable results, lateral epicondylitis is much more surrounded by controversy. There is consistent literature supporting its spontaneous resolution within 1 year. In some cases, this condition can evolve into a recalcitrant disease, influenced mainly by the patient’s attitude, circumstances, and ineffective coping strategies toward pain. There exist a wide variety of treatment options between surgery and different types of injection, all of them supported by low-quality evidence.
