Neuromuscular Scoliosis
摘要
The term neuromuscular scoliosis (NMS) describes all noncongenital spinal deformities that occur in patients with any type of neuromuscular disorder. Spinal deformity is a key issue as it usually presents at an early age, and the natural history is to progress, even after skeletal maturity. The underlying pathology will determine the risk of progression as well as the severity of it. Among the various neuromuscular disorders, patients with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy have the highest incidence of scoliosis and greatest risk of progression. Multidisciplinary approach takes special importance in this population to address other health-related problems. The objectives of the surgery are mainly the optimal correction of the spinal deformity and the pelvic obliquity to obtain a normal balance of the head over the pelvis.
