Amputations
摘要
Amputation is one of the first surgical procedures performed in the world. It is considered a simple procedure, but it can derive in many complications. The incidence of amputations is high, mainly due to vascular disease or diabetes mellitus, but post-traumatic amputation has a great impact on society because it affects young and productive people. Despite advances in the different types of prostheses, materials, and specialized rehabilitation programs, many patients are unable to return to the same condition and quality of life held before amputation. Recent studies that followed post-amputation patients showed that the number of problems and difficulties for the amputee to adapt to his/her new life is significant.
