Subtrochanteric Fractures
摘要
Subtrochanteric fractures present a bimodal curve of prevalence affecting both elderly and young patients. Knowledge of the local anatomy, added to the muscle deforming forces involved, will enable the assessment of the compensatory mechanisms that need to be performed to achieve fracture component reduction during the surgical procedure. The complexity and difficulties in the fixation of these injuries are evident considering the increasing number of implants and reduction techniques historically used, with no single procedure being superior to other. Currently, the use of indirect, minimally invasive reduction techniques that preserve local biology and are less aggressive to the soft tissues helps avoid a high percentage of the complications previously published with open techniques, without the need of using bone graft.
