Intertrochanteric Fractures

  • Danilo Roger Eric Taype Zamboni

摘要

Intertrochanteric fractures increase as the number of elderly people grows, which is why the treatment of these fractures is so relevant, not only because of the number of patients, but also because of the fragility of these patients and the need to solve the fracture in a single intervention. Surgeries within 48 h of admission have shown a benefit in reducing mortality at one year. Many classification systems have been developed, and concepts have changed in relation to the stability of this type of fracture. This has helped to the better understanding of them and choose the best method of fixing them. Reduction of fractures and the implant positioning are the keys to a good outcome. Early rehabilitation is mandatory with immediate weight bearing necessary to avoid complications. Complications can be related to bone healing and other clinical problems, and bone-related problems may require a revision surgery in order to refix or replace the hip.
