Postoperative Spinal Infections

Surgical site infections following spinal surgery can be devastating, leading to a high risk of morbidity, increased hospital stay, non-union, sepsis and death. Timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment can help decrease morbi-mortality and obtain good postoperative outcomes. Many infections can be treated with antibiotics only. However, irrigation and debridement plus systemic antibiotic therapy are the preferred treatments in deep infections.
