Elbow Dislocation and Fracture Dislocation (Elbow Terrible Triad)

Elbow dislocations associated with radial head and coronoid fractures have been termed the “terrible triad of the elbow” because of the difficulties in treatment and the poorly reported outcomes. Correct understanding of elbow anatomy, biomechanics, and the pathoanatomy of this injury combined with improved implants and surgical techniques has contributed to better outcomes. Coronoid process fixation, radial head fixation or arthroplasty, and repair of the lateral collateral ligament continue to be the mainstays of treatment.
