Ankle Instability

  • Santiago Guerrero

摘要

Ankle instability results from the inability of the ligaments of the ankle to hold the joint in an anatomic position within a physiological range of motion. It is characterized by recurrent ankle sprains and can affect both the medial and lateral complex ligaments. If this is the case, the condition is known as multidirectional instability. Several causes can lead to chronic ankle instability and will be discussed in this chapter, together with the relevant information in regard to the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of this condition.
