Spastic Hand

Three main situations can be distinguished according to the etiology and age of onset of the lesions: cerebral palsies, cerebrovascular accidents and traumatic brain injury. Because of the polymorphism of the clinical presentation, the assessment and construction of a therapeutic strategy is complex. The main objectives of surgery are: (1) the motor control of the shoulder and elbow, (2) the correction of vicious attitudes and (3) the restoration of an active extension of the elbow, wrist and fingers. This chapter provides a detailed description of the main diagnostic and treatment methods for this pathology, as well as the treatment methods preferred by the authors.
