CKD Care for Pediatric and Adolescent Patients

The care of pediatric patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) is highly complex owing to the uniqueness of this age group in regard to its special dietary and psychosocial requirements including cognitive, academic, and social constraints. This is further complicated by the CKD-associated multiple comorbidities, hence the need for polypharmacy and increased healthcare utilization hindering the management of this vulnerable age group more challenging (Bell et al., Adv Chronic Kidney Dis 18:384–390, 2011). This chapter sheds light in the role of both the CKD patients’ care givers and their healthcare providers and discusses the differences in the management of pediatric and adolescent patients with CKD as compared to adults.
