People with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are at an increased level for infectious complications. Vaccination represents an important prevention strategy in this population of patients, as several studies have reported lower infection rates and significantly reduced morbidity and mortality when hospitals and clinics start adopting vaccination protocols. Some infections can be prevented with vaccines which is why it is imperative that the patient, as well as the health care team, knows the importance of vaccinations in effectively treating patients with CKD.
