Kidney Replacement Therapies: Peritoneal Dialysis
摘要
Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is the renal replacement therapy that eliminates toxins and removes fluid through convection and diffusion, by the inflow and outflow of PD solutions into the peritoneal cavity. Dialysis is performed when solute moves from a high concentration area to an area of low concentration, through the semipermeable membrane (peritoneum) until balance is achieved in both areas. The function of each person’s peritoneal membrane varies from the one person to another, and the therapy has to be prescribed individually in order to have good results.
