This is particularly beneficial in vitreoretinal surgery, a highly delicate and complex field requiring mastery of micro-incisional techniques and nuanced hand–eye coordination. Simulation-based training tools, including virtual reality (VR) simulators and augmented reality (AR) platforms, enable trainees to develop core competencies such as pars plana vitrectomy, membrane peeling, and endolaser photocoagulation without risking patient outcomes. Additionally, high-definition surgical video libraries, combined with annotated instruction and expert commentary, allow for asynchronous learning and critical analysis of surgical approaches. E-learning modules may incorporate interactive elements such as quizzes, decision-making scenarios, and real-time feedback mechanisms to reinforce understanding and procedural planning. Moreover, competency-based assessments and remote mentoring models support continuous evaluation and personalized progression, fostering both technical proficiency and clinical decision-making. These methods are especially advantageous in resource-limited settings, where access to specialized training may be restricted. While e-learning cannot fully replace hands-on surgical experience, it offers a robust adjunct that enhances preparedness and accelerates the learning curve for vitreoretinal surgeons.
