Type 2 macular telangiectasia is a bilateral, slowly progressive idiopathic disease that predominantly affects individuals between the fifth and sixth decades of life; it has no predilection between sex and compromises central vision, causing visual blurring, image distortion, and, mainly, decreased reading speed, much earlier than the decrease in visual acuity, to the detriment of quality of life. It was originally described by Gass in 1977 [1, 2].
