Skin Infections

Skin disorders affect 20–30% of the general population. Sociodemographic factors play pivotal role in the manifestation of the disease. These can be classified into two categories, transmissible and non-transmissible diseases. Bacterial infections of the hair follicles cause folliculitis, furuncles, and carbuncles. Scalded skin syndrome that usually affects children is caused by staphylococcus and pyoderma caused by Streptococcus pyogenes. Lyme disease caused due to spirochetal infection, often referred as tick-born disease is quite prevalent in North America, Europe, and Asia. Viral infections of the skin include human papilloma viruses (HPV), human herpes viruses (HHV), herpes simplex virus (HSV), varicella (chicken pox), mumps virus. Fungal infections of the skin cause disease like athlete’s foot, jock itch, ringworm, and candida.
