Based on the published documents, this chapter describes the conceptual plans for the HVDC grids mainly in three geographical regions of Europe, China and Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN). Each of the regions represents a different challenge to the planning of HVDC grids and it is probable this will affect the probability of converting the plans into reality in these areas. The discussion of regulatory environment for the planning of a HVDC grid system is introduced and an overview of the DC benchmark models for system studies, which resulted in the published Technical Brochure (CIGRE TB 804, 2020) is included in this chapter.
