Balloon Sinuplasty: Patient Selection and Surgical Technique
摘要
Although medical therapy, in the form of intranasal topical corticosteroids in particular, is first-line treatment for chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), approximately 1% of CRS patients undergo functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) each year [1]. Surgery is reserved for patients who fail maximal medical therapy (MMT) and have endoscopic or computed tomography (CT) evidence of significant mechanical obstruction of the sinus ostia. The goal of FESS is to re-establish the patency of the sinus ostia to re-establish normal mucociliary function [1].
