I shall not object to those who see the preceding chapter as an “almost insupportably detailed description of the Liber abbaci”, to quote Cantor’s characterization [1892: 31] of his own much shorter analysis. Now, however, we shall turn to the history of abbacus mathematics proper, divided into periods – the “real story” instead of the “Fibonacci story”.
