Innovation and Organization
摘要
At first sight, the relationship between innovation and organization is contradictory: organizing, with its focus on standardized procedures and uncertainty reduction, limits innovation, which is per se marked by uncertainty. At the same time, innovation processes are highly organized—not least because organizational constraints can also facilitate innovation to some extent. In this chapter, we review current practice and process-oriented approaches in organizational research that address this relationship in ways that go beyond the notion of ambidexterity as a structural solution. In doing so, we argue that innovation depends neither on particularly creative individuals nor on specific organizational structures but on situational, collective practices. We discuss the relevance of future research on organizing innovation in digital spaces and using digital technology, as well as the broader relevance of organizing innovation for a sustainable future.
