Rights of the Unknown Person: The Life and Legacy of Janusz Korcak

This chapter addresses the life and legacy of Janusz Korczak, the Polish pedagogue, educator, and administrator. Korczak is renowned for his works of fiction as well as his nonfiction texts that help lay a foundation for understanding interactions with children based around what he considered inviable rights. In addition to his writings, he founded and served as administrator of several orphanages, primarily for Jewish children. He pioneered works on the inherent rights of children and defended those rights feverously. Korczak died 1942 in the Treblinka extermination camp, at the hands of the Nazis, alongside the children for whom he cared.
