Hipparchia
摘要
Hipparchia of Maroneia (fourth century BCE), one of the first Cynic philosophers, was a woman who defied traditional norms, took up an intellectual life in the public sphere, and set a lasting example that informed and inspired men and women in subsequent centuries. Hipparchia is notable for her reputation as a philosopher on par with male peers, and the narrative information transmitted about her, although limited, has preserved her lasting influence, presenting her as an exemplar and inspiration for women’s intellectual engagement throughout history.
