Sugata Mitra

Sugata Mitra is a world-recognized educational futurist and learning scientist best known for his 1999 “Hole in the Wall” experiments, in which he placed internet-connected computer terminals in publicly accessible spaces across India to explore how children living in poverty and remoteness would use them. The project led to the development of the theory of minimally invasive education and the model of self-organized learning environments. He argues for free access to the internet with limited supervision and writes extensively on issues of technology in education. He predicts that future classroom settings will allow access to the internet during assessments in the same way current classrooms allow children to use their glasses, that the curriculum of the future will be determined by what learners need to know, and that the process of inquiry will be more valuable than retaining knowledge. “The three Rs of reading, writing and arithmetic,” Mitra (Resume.
