Shaun R. Harper: Addressing the Conditions of Black Males and Racism in the US Higher Education

African American college students have endured centuries of challenges. Arguably no greater challenge has been faced than overcoming the issue of racism. Racism has restricted access, has limited opportunity, and lower positive experiences among students of color. This chapter explores educator and scholar Shaun Harper’s research related to African American college students and men. Harper’s scholarship, beginning in the early 2000s, identifies educational barriers, raises African American student voice through narrative inquiry, and illuminates how higher education has failed African American students by maintaining the status quo.
