“When Is a Zombie Not a Zombie?”: Or Can Animals be Zombie Animals or Are They Something Else?
摘要
This chapter looks at the intersection of animals and narratives about zombies. More specifically it both complicates and questions how zombies and zombieism, in their various iterations and evolutions, can, or cannot, effect animals and some of the possible reasons/meanings for that. Part of this covers how animals became more actively involved in zombieism once it had transitioned more obviously to a contagion narrative, and how real world examples of zombie animals (fauna) have been incorporated into the ongoing narrative of the postapocalyptic zombie. Lastly, this chapter considers how animals have become a central feature of the evolution of the zombie into a symbol of hybridity and futurism.
