Twilight Zone as Philosophy 101

This is a threefold introduction: an introduction to philosophy, to The Twilight Zone, and to the rest of the handbook. This chapter begins with a discussion of the advantages of using examples, salient features, and an immersive approach when introducing new subject matter. This is then followed, first, by an examination of some of the salient features of philosophy, particularly those features that are also features of The Twilight Zone, and then, second, by a detailed discussion of the philosophical content of specific episodes of The Twilight Zone, particularly those topics that are also addressed in other chapters of this book. This immerses the reader in the process of doing exactly what philosophers often do, which is engaging with philosophical texts, and with the purpose of this handbook: to treat works of popular culture as philosophy.
