Treatment and Rehabilitation of the Patient with a Scar

  • Lisa Martin,

摘要

This chapter explores the impact of scarring, from the ‘big picture’ of increased health risks for the population of people who live with a scar to the individualised lived experience of people who wear their scars for life. By understanding the potential difficulties experienced by people with scars, health care practitioners gain context and empathy, and this puts them in a stronger position to understand rehabilitation strategies. Furthermore, how the approach of the clinician and the health care team can facilitate effective reintegration and rehabilitation through routine practice, choice of treatments and approach to care is discussed.
