My Awakening as Composer—No Adjective
摘要
Charts my evolution both artistically and attitudinally during a span of approximately sixty-five years. Predominating styles underwent a major change during this time period, and I continued to develop artistically—all while staying true to the prompts of my experience, my inner ear, and my creative intuition. My optimism and altruism led me to contribute to the re-recognition of the achievements of women composers of the past—and spotlight present creators—in books, articles and speeches over two and a half decades, even while curtailing my own creative work for a while. Ultimately, I jettisoned all adjectives to the word Composer, except for one: Living. A natural leader, I have garnered success at everything I touch, and consider myself a “born Composer.”
