The Mirror: A Novel in Reflections—Excerpts
摘要
This chapter comprises excerpts from a novella-in-progress, the musically-informed genre of which defies quantification: notes in a diary? an autobiographical novel?, the idea for which came to me on the eve of my twenty-first birthday. The text weaves myth into musical imaginings. I include a self-reflective section where I discuss its conceptual underpinnings with friends and recount our conversation after a hearing of the book. The sub-text for the whole is a blurring of the distinction between words and music, revealing the higher-order thinking of the composer as artist.
