Non-dominant, Lesional Mesial Temporal Lobe Epilepsy

This chapter discusses a case of non-dominant mesial temporal lobe epilepsy undergoing anteromedial temporal lobectomy. We review the different resection techniques used for mesial temporal lobe epilepsy. We highlight the impact of resection on verbal and visual memory functions. We summarize the literature regarding anti-seizure medication discontinuation following resective surgery. Furthermore, this case highlights the difference in EEG findings in mesial and neocortical temporal lobe epilepsy. Lastly, we analyze the symptomatogenesis of abdominal and hypermotor seizures, automatisms (specifically manual gestures), and post-ictal nose wiping.
