Non-dominant, Lesional Frontal Lobe Epilepsy Masquerading as Generalized Epilepsy

  • Aline Herlopian

摘要

We present a case of non-dominant, lesional pharmacoresistant epilepsy undergoing lesionectomy without requiring intracranial monitoring. This chapter illustrates the co-existence of focal and generalized epilepsy types. We analyze the focal features occurring in patients with generalized epilepsies. We discuss possible EEG characteristics that distinguish primary from secondary bilateral synchrony. We discuss the differential diagnoses of cystic lesions identified on MRI brain studies. We summarize the neuroimaging findings in patients with focal cortical dysplasia in great detail. Likewise, we discuss all the innovative neuroimaging modalities utilized to improve the detection of focal cortical dysplasia. Lastly, we present the evidence for guiding resection using intra-operative electrocorticography.
