Post-COVID-19 Condition
摘要
The rationale for prescribing whole-body cryostimulation (WBC) in post-coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) condition (PCC) appears in line with the existing evidence of clinical and functional benefits following WBC documented in musculoskeletal, neurological, and psychiatric conditions. WBC seems to trigger rapid anti-inflammatory actions, which could in part explain the results of a series of cases of application of WBC in PCC patients and support its use as a booster for rehabilitation programs. Our preliminary results indicate that integrating WBC into a multidisciplinary rehabilitation approach may provide benefits for individuals recovering from PCC. However, because patients underwent a variety of interventions on top of WBC, including nutritional and psychological support along with physical exercise, it is not possible to determine to what extent WBC may per se have accounted for the observed clinical and functional improvements and the reduction in the inflammatory status. Randomized control trials with sham WBC sessions are needed for that purpose.
