Healthy Aging and Well-Being of Older Adults in Hong Kong

Aging population has been a worldwide issue, and governments around the world are promoting healthy aging and well-being of older adults. In order to improve the quality of life of older populations, different countries and regions are making some progress on strengthening the provision of long-term care and building an age-friendly living environment for older adults. In the Asia-Pacific region, Hong Kong is no exception in facing the impacts of population aging, such as poverty of older adults and increase in demand on healthcare expenditure and services. Although there are still gaps in healthcare policy and actions, efforts have been shown in providing universal health coverage and vaccination, minimizing poverty, promoting lifelong education, and improving transportation scheme for older adults in Hong Kong. This chapter discusses the implementation of SDGs in relation to healthy aging in Hong Kong and concludes with recommendations for formulating sustainable policy that are conducive to health aging and well-being of the older adults.
