As noted in Chap. 3 from the case study of Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Katrina, maps organized from different researchers, and using different disciplinary lenses, tell a story that is not obvious when using one source of data collected by one disciplinary lens and set of tools. These case studies demonstrated the need for integrated geospatial approaches in which place and space can play key roles in understanding processes and finding solutions. In this chapter, we will explore notions of place, space, and scale in the context of a place-based approach and integrated geospatial analysis.
