Safety and Security Applications of Sensors

Recently, sensors have caught much attention due to their convenience and wide range of applications. The primary purpose of sensors in various fields is to detect physical phenomena and produce an output signal that a human or machine can interpret. This chapter explains how sensors are applied to ensure the safety and security of different fields. Four types of safety are being discussed, food, building, transportation, and personal safety, and three types of security: national, building, and international airport security, along with other notable safety and security applications of sensors. Several important examples are listed and explained in detail for each section. The current limitations and challenges of sensors in safety and security applications are identified as ways to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with AI integration.
