Fluorescent Sensors

Fluorescence is one of the most crucial analytical methods in biological investigations because of its high sensitivity and response speed, which allow it to detect a wide range of targets, whether at the molecular or cellular level and may even be used for nearly everything and any place. Moreover, it has become standard practice for researchers to label non-fluorescent targets with various fluorescent compounds in the form of molecules, their complexes, and nanoparticles. Also, they can be used as response units in sensing technologies to provide dynamic information regarding the localization and quantity of target biomolecules. This chapter provides a thorough knowledge of fluorescence sensing by emphasizing the key spectrum variables of the fluorescence process, the challenges that hinder the sensing process, as well as a proper understanding of how it is produced and eliminated by the new approaches. The most crucial applications in which the enhanced fluorescence factors contributed to improving the sensing process and the role of nanomaterials and nanofilms in increasing the physicochemical properties associated with the fluorescence sensing process are also discussed.
