Radiation Sensors

摘要

Ionizing radiation is electromagnetic waves with sufficient energy to ionize molecules and atoms, including X-rays and gamma rays. It also can be particles such as alpha particles, beta particles, and neutrons. Ionizing radiation is widely used in nuclear medicine, industry, and high-energy physics. Ionizing radiation has both advantages and disadvantages. For instance, ionizing radiation can kill cancer cells in irradiation therapy. In contrast, it can affect the healthy tissue of patients. Approximately 60–70% of cancer patients require radiotherapy during their treatment, and accurate dosimetry of ionized beams must be effectively addressed. This chapter discusses radiation sensors and their potential applications in industry, cancer treatment, nuclear sciences, and high-energy physics.
