DRAO: The Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory

Canada may be a large country in geographical terms, but its population is concentrated strongly in a few large but widely-separated cities. Serious activity in the new field of radio astronomy can be dated to1956, when a major grant was awarded to Carlisle Beals to establish a radio astronomy observatory in western Canada.
