ALMA: The Atacama Large Millimeter Array

With these words, Canada’s 2000 ‘Long Range Plan’ Panel (LRPP) for Astronomy ranked ALMA as its highest priority ground-based telescope for Canadian access for the coming decade. The Canadian community was not alone. Canada joined the United States and Europe in prioritizing ALMA as a project of foremost importance to their respective professional astronomy communities at the beginning of the new millennium.
