By the early 1970s numerous fascinating and promising developments were taking place in millimetre-wave astronomy, spear-headed chiefly by the output from the 11-m NRAO telescope at Kitt Peak (AZ). Here we describe Canada’s rather sudden transition from long-wavelength radio astronomy to millimetre and submillimetre radio astronomy.
