What Is Radio Astronomy?

Radio and optical astronomy share the same endeavour: to make observations of objects in the sky and to interpret the science of what the observations show. Why then do radio and optical telescopes look so very different? The basic reason is that the different wavelengths involved necessitate quite different technologies, leading to contrasting designs and equipment handling.
