摘要

Climate change and variability, including increases in the frequency and intensity of extremes, are projected to adversely impact food security and ecosystems. This chapter aimed (1) to provide an overview of the impacts of climate change on the agriculture and water sectors in East and Southeast Asia, (2) to summarize adaptation approaches to cope with climate change in the region, and (3) to propose a nexus approach for the effective and sustainable use of resources under a changing climate through a better understanding of the interlinkage between food and water. Based on the projected changes in temperature and precipitation in East and Southeast Asia, we discussed adaptations to climate change for the agriculture and water sectors and investigated the synergies and trade-offs between the two sectors. Finally, we highlighted that a better understanding of the interdependency between those sectors through a nexus approach can provide an efficacious measure for the effective and sustainable use of water resources and for enhancing food security.
